What is Web Forwarding?
(Also known as redirecting)
Web forwarding is a service that allows people with sites at
places like Geocities.com and Yahoo.com to send people who go
to their domain name to their site on the other service.
For example. say you have a site on Geocities.com and to get
to it you normally go to http://www.geocities.com/myaccount/
Let's say your domain is mydomain.com. If you buy web forwarding
for your domain, when people go to mydomain.com it will send them
to your actual home page at http://www.geocities.com/myaccount/.
So when people go to http://www.mydomain.com/ they'll end up at
http://www.geocities.com/myaccount/.
Another good reason to use web forwarding is for having multiple
domains point to the same website. For example, if you have a
hosting account for mydomain.com and you also have the domain MyPlace.net
then you can order web forwarding for MyPlace.net, so that if
people go to that address they'll still get to your mydomain.com
website.
What is Deluxe Web Forwarding?
(What if I don't want people to see the http://www.geocities.com/myaccount/
address in the browser window?)
Well that is what we have Deluxe Web Forwarding for!
With Deluxe Web Forwarding you not only get your domain to go
to your account (ie http://www.geocities.com/myaccount/) but ALSO
people will never see that they are actually at http://www.geocities.com/myaccount/.
Instead they'll always think that they are at http://www.mydomain.com/.
We call this Forwarded URL Transparency.
The Deluxe Web Forwarding also includes a POP3 email box so you
can have people send email to your domain (ie, john@mydomain.com)
so that even though you don't really have a hosting account, it
still looks like you do!
The Deluxe Web Forwarding really does allow for transparent access
to any existing site you may already have without the expense
of getting a full-scale hosting account.
